Data processing federation which is shortly named as INTERSTENO; has been organizing congresses and World Championships in order to encourage the developments in the field of Stenograhy, Typing and Computers since 1887 and it is a Federaion affilated to the United Nations. It has organized 23 World Championships and 43 Congresses until 2002.  

Turkey has joined INTERSTENO on May 5, 1957 and has become a member of the Central Committee on the same date.  

These congresses has been orghanized for the unprofessional and professional Data Processing applications and the training which are the necessitates of todays computer age and the typing professions with a history of 150 years and stenography with a history of 2000 years and they have been organizing international Competetions and World Championships for the solution of the problems in the offices, parliaments and in all kinds of commissions, for exchanging ideas to carry out the labour effectively and for encouraging the workers to work more effectively. The congresses were carried out right after the two big World Wars and thus their development and institutionalisation has gained an impetus with the annual meetings of the Head Committee which has been composed of members from each country since 1954. The congreesses and Championships have been organized in every two years between 1955 and 1995 and in every three years after 1995 by the groups of member states.

The 44^th  Congress of INTERSTENO will be carried out in Roma in Italy between July 15-17, 2003.
